Jaw plates: Jaw plates are the replaceable, wear-resistant parts of a jaw crusher, designed to crush and reduce material size. Selecting the right jaw plates has a significant impact on achieving a satisfactory crushing result with low wear costs, and the quality of the steel has a considerable influence on the service life. There are two main types of jaw plates used in a jaw crusher, and they are named based on their location within the crusher: Fixed jaw plate and Movable jaw plate.
Function: Fixed jaw plate: the fixed jaw plate, as the name suggests, is securely fastened within the crusher housing. It remains stationary throughout the crushing process. The fixed jaw plate provides the initial impact surface against which the material being crushed is forced. The design of the fixed jaw plate can influence the initial size reduction and shaping of the material.
Function: Movable jaw Plate: The movable jaw plate is a key component that performs the actual crushing action. It’s connected to the crusher frame through a toggle mechanism or other linkage system. During operation, the movable jaw plate swings back and forth, crushing the material against the fixed jaw plate.
Jaw plate profile: Both fixed and movable jaw plates can have different profiles depending on the desired outcome. For example, a specific profile might be used for achieving a more cubical final product shape.
Wear and tear: The movable jaw plate experiences the brunt of the wear and tear during crushing. The specific type of material being crushed can influence the choice of jaw plate material. Some jaw plates might have a special coating or design features optimized for particular materials. It’s typically made from highly wear-resistant materials like manganese steel to withstand the impact forces.
Replacement and Maintenance: Jaw plates are wear parts and need to be inspected and replaced periodically to maintain optimal crushing performance.
